Winter Ball 2020 Postponed

Given the growing concerns around COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Winter Ball planned for 29th August 2020.

This was a tough decision to make. The committee arrived at this decision in consultation with our Trustees. It is important to note —that taking this decision promptly helped us to avoid negative financial implications for the organisation.

The Winter Ball is a signature event for SLA and we all look forward to this event every year. It is one of our admired ways to celebrate with all of you in the community but we need to prioritise the health and safety of our members, and everyone who helps put on this annual event.

We remain committed to our members and community. To this end, we are undertaking a similar risk assessment with other SLA events and activities. We’ll share additional details on our plans in the coming weeks.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us on president@slansw.org.au or 0424 960 800.

Support Network

Sri Lanka Association of NSW (SLA) has been observing the COVID-19 situation as it evolves.

As you all may realise now, each passing day brings new developments.  Our organisation’s priority remains the health and well-being of our members and everyone in the Sri Lankan community living in NSW.

As communicated recently, we have taken a proactive step to postpone our signature event – “Winter Ball” scheduled for 29th August 2020, which always delivered countless memorable experiences to our members and well-wishers.

We have many events planned for this year, including the launch of Women’s Network on 3rd May 2020.

We share your concerns. The current situation is a very worrying time for all of us. We understand many people and industries are being deeply affected. Potentially it could alter individual circumstances too. To this end, SLA, in collaboration with other Sri Lankan organisations, is preparing to establish a support network for the most affected members in our community. The details are being formulated on how might we collectively help navigate people impacted to the best possible support they require.

Please follow the NSW public health guidelines and announcements for up-to-date guidance.

Also, you can follow the: World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

The Sinhalese Cultural Forum of New South Wales Australia (The SCF) and Sri Lanka Association of NSW (SLA) in collaboration with several Sri Lankan Community organisations planned to hold  “Sunfest 2020”, Sri Lankan New year Festival celebrating Sinhala and Tamil New Year on 11 April 2020.

Given the growing concern around COVID-19, and the situation as it evolves, our organisations made the difficult decision to cancel the Sunfest planned for 11 April 2020.

The SCF and SLA arrived at this decision prioritising the health, safety and well-being of our members and the community at large living in NSW.

In lieu, we are already in the process of organising a similar event towards the end of the year. We will share additional details of our plan in the near future.
